Because It's Christmas Eve

I kind of realized now that I should have made something rather Christmas-y for today. Seeing that it's the day before Christmas and all, but I did not. So I have decided to broadcast my Christmas Eve - yes, it is a live broadcast via stickam.com and it's going to be awesome. I'll be opening presents and be smoking cigarettes in my room just because! All you have to do is to go to my stickam account and join the chat thingy (I'm not really sure what it's officially called). It would be totally awesome if you guys could watch it.

I'll see you all later? ;)

When it Rains, it Pours

You might have taken notice that I'm either really sad or bored every time I blog. And last night was probably one of those nights when my previous feelings for this certain someone have risen (again) from the ashes I thought they already were. It was a regular unproductive day since there weren't any classes and I decided to well, check his Facebook account. Not my brightest idea believe me. His new profile picture hit me like a humongous rock - on the chest. It was of him and his girlfriend and she had her arms around him. I instantly thought - that should be me. Pathetic, I know. But I can't help it, I'm a girl! I can't believe that I said that. It sounds so wrong on different levels, and not to mention: sexist. So yes, I have been emo (for the lack of the better term) last night. I lied around in my pajamas with the television on mute. It's like a part of my life has been ripped straight from an episode of The Hills. Drama drama drama.

Fact.

But I just really miss him.

Oh Hello There

You might have noticed that I only update this blog every time I'm in the computer lab. Just like this instance. Well, I honestly don't have anything better to do today so I would much rather be productive one way or the other. And this, my friend, is my own little way of not being stagnant.

Sleep has been the only thing I've been craving for since I was in my first year of college when I first experienced sleepless nights. Take note of the s after night. There was a time wherein I didn't sleep for a while week. I almost never slept. I'd have a couple of hours of sleep a day and that's it.

Anyway, it's December, fools! I can seriously smell and literally see the spirit of Christmas especially here in UST. Christmas lights everywhere, the tree's up as well (it's not a real tree, though). And how can I ever forget the fast-growing number of street kids singing Christmas carols in exchange for money? Malls have been going on sale as well which is pretty exciting. I honestly can't wait to get a hold of my Christmas cash.

Wants vs. Needs
What do I need?
I need a complete family.
A boyfriend who I specifically need to have scruffy hair, thick-rimmed glasses and a dominant creative side.
Money. Definitely money. To buy all my loved ones fancy gifts.

What do I want?
Clothes. Lots and lots of clothes. And I need to have my Infinite tattoo retouched.

Brand new!

Yes, that's right. I finally managed to change my layout. Although I nicked to code from blogskins and edited it a little. Which isn't that bad since I left the credits on for future references and as a sign of respect.

I hope this sassy new layout gets me more awesome readers and followers on bloglovin'! Just saying. ;)

COMMENT! ♥

PS.
I will be posting more since I have computer lab subjects now. Which means = more time pondering upon design, animation, drawing, sketching and the likes. Which also means = overflowing creative juices. Only happens when I'm in school (and in the mood).

School

Currently in school, trying to focus on doing some activity. Drawing involved of course. But I'm still kind of figuring out how I'm ever going to execute this. It's easy sure but laziness sure does get in the way like holy hell!

Let me amuse you guys with a couple of pictures first - eye candy!

Halloween's over. I might have pulled the blue lipstick off. But then it probably wouldn't have matched my costume which was of.. a mouse. Well basically they're just mouse ears worn with casual clothing. Just for the sake of dressing up this halloween.

As most of you might have remembered, I was stuck in the hotel room in Ormoc (Leyte) because my flight back to Manila got cancelled. Meaning, no parties and definitely no getting wasted.

This is me filling you in with the previous events that happened in my life. This blog is far more abandoned than I thought.

Watched the movie Whip It as well just a couple of weeks back. It was very interesting. Considering that Ellen Page was in it and I thought the setting was during the 80's when roller blading or whatever it is they prefer calling it was a huge hit. Never thought it still is in Texas. But wait, the story is based on a true story right?

Sid and Nancy. I don't think I need to have a proper excuse to post this. It's Sid and freaking Nancy for crying out loud!

Been trying to get inspired when it comes to illustrating. I'm in my third year and I still don't know what thesis to take. Book illustration is on my top three. The other one is total ad campaigne. Don't know about the third yet. Anyway, I still have not worked on my style.

Let me end with something worth seeing. And most definitely worth drooling.

Ash Stymest and Luke Worral, anyone? ;)

Dear David Bowie

Lipstick Wars, begone!

From now on, my blog's URL will no longer be lipstickwars.blogspot.com but deardavidbowie.blogspot.com! It's not exactly about David Bowie. Nothing related to him, actually. It's just that I thought that it would be nice to have a different identity that's more suitable to my personality. Lipstick Wars wasn't good enough for me. People probably think that I'm some makeup guru based on my username which I am most definitely not.

As for the layout, it will be changed soon. Into something more awesome, of course. So please, sit back and relax. Dear David Bowie will have its new look soon!

Welcome to The Real World

The blog that I've been working for (LILY) closed down. Apparently we were not able to achieve a certain number of readers at a certain amount of time. It was such a shame, I had so much fun with it.

Anyway I haven't blogged in a while and I honestly don't know what to say because it feels like I've been out of circulation in so long that I forgot how to communicate properly through this.

Oh, right! First and foremost I would like to inform you that my first week of classes have gone well. Actually I've only been to school twice since our official first day last Wednesday. I feel like such a couch potato now, having a hard time getting off this seat and to the shower has been excruciating.. what more if I have to go all the way to UST for my attendance to be checked? But then again, it's all good.

Last Monday (one of the two times I went to school), after my class that got suspended at 3pm because of the transport strike, I headed to Shangri-La to meet up with my dad *kaching, kaching!*. Also to see Den for a bit to simply show off my new tattoo care of Gab Bustos last Saturday (which I will post a picture of, soon. Using my aunt's 30D which isn't as good as my 40D but is good enough). After meeting up with Den and having pastries with my dad, we headed over to Mega Mall to check out the department store and of course, Forever 21. There were no plans of shopping but when I saw a black bodycon skirt in my size (there was only one left), I took it with no hesitation! It was for a really, really cheap price. You wouldn't have thought it would be that low! Also got an awesome tank top with a nice ethnic-looking print on it (Will wear this today).

Life has been well. Too bad I won't be able to bomb you guys with photos of the previous weeks since there are basically none. BUT I will post a picture of myself in the beach. And if you know me personally, I very rarely head over to the beach because I don't want to get dark. I always have a hard time regaining my old fair skin tone.

No, this is not Boracay. This was taken in Canigao, an island in Leyte that is so small you can walk around the entire place in less than an hour. Yes, it's that puny. Check out the white sand! It's such a shame that I'm not really fond of swimming and beaches. And you can totally see my tattoo on this picture, so yay!

Anyway, I've been looking for a photo of my new F21 tank top from Google but to no avail. Kinda sucks. Maaaan, I need to get my camera fixed.

My Creative Juices Have Run Dry

Currently:
  • Working on several layout proposals for Lily, the magazine I work for as a contributing editor creative editor.
  • Listening to The Teenagers
  • Sketching thumbnails for possible layouts
And now, I'm still squeezing my brain for other ideas. But I really need a break so here I am, blogging about it.

Well I just found out last night about Blogger stats from Nicole. Not very surprised with the number of readers I have in this blog since I don't really tell people about it. But I am pretty overwhelmed with the fact that I have readers from France, Netherlands, America, and England among others. So you - my readers - should definitely check out LILY under Write and Burn. It's for everyone who's into the Skins type of lifestyle (like me!).

Nice to Know You

I'm beginning to notice how much this feels
Like a waking limb... in pins and needles,
Nice to know you, good-bye

These are the lyrics to Incubus' song, Nice to Know You. And it has been indeed nice to know you. University Rock on Nu107 has ended - the last episode aired last night and I can't feel any worst. Being a part of NU107 (The only radio station in the Philippines who play rock music all through out) and let alone, University Rock has been an honor. The last batch of student DJs, that's what we (Annie, Izzy, Erika, Lisane and Rica) are - or were for that matter. We didn't get paid, we didn't get laid, but we got to meet awesome people, talk on the radio about meaningless stuff and blab about the collegiate life.

For the record, I always knew this was my calling (one of the many few, actually). When I was around seven, I told my dad that I want to be a DJ because they just seem to have the awesome-st jobs ever! And he said that it takes a lot to be one. They don't just TALK on air. And in URock, that I've learned.

I remember the first time I spoke on the microphone to answer Job's (from batch 2 of Urock) question about my (now non-existent) tongue stud. I ended up stumbling about how my mom reacted when she saw it and all that. Also boarding with my URock bestie, Annie who is from CSB and playing band alphabet with Corporate Skyscrapers from CSB, Ateneo and DLSU. They were a bunch of fun boys. Good times, good times. I feel bad that I only get to spend with my URock family for such a short time. It was really great when our boss, Sir Mico (aka Lord Vader) asked us if it was the first time we all met (Batch 3) because it seems like we've known each other for a long time.

Boarding with Izzy was great too. We had ABCD (Whom I blogged about around a month ago) and they were very nice as well.

I guess all I'm really trying to say is that.. I wish it didn't have to end so fast. But It was surely great while it lasted.

So now I bid my adieu to University Rock on NU107. The experience we had there are priceless. But the friendship I do know that the friendship we all had will last a lifetime. I will miss you, and we will meet again.

With Love, Ormoc

Oh hello!

As most of you know, I'm on Vacation and currently taking a break here in Ormoc. Today is day three of my stay here and we already did so many things! Like swimming, going around the city, and shopping of course! We did most of the latter, actually and I scored a bunch of lovely things on my second day!

What I scored:
  • Black sabrina lace top
  • Pink lace top
  • Hello Kitty purse
  • Charm necklace
  • Chanel earrings
  • "Minnie Mouse" head bands
I wish I can post more pictures but then Tyler (my 40D) is broken and we'd have to do away with my mom's cellphone which is okay, I guess. It's better than nothing, right?

Yesterday we went swimming and I was worried sick that something wrong would happen to my new anchor tattoo but good thing it's safe! It sucks that I got a tan, though. Well not really, but I got darker. I was already very contented with my fair skin tone. But it would be nice if it (my skin tone) would even out.

edit
As you can see I changed a few stuff and already uploaded a more hi-res photo of the things I bought the past days.

My mom borrowed her friend's digicam so we'd have something to use all through out the week. Having a camera actually made me in the mood for going around the city.

I am happier.

Dear Effy Stonem

(Sadly, I cannot post pictures since Blogger is on maintenance)

For today's agenda, my dad and I went to the mall to buy myself a pair of these nice harem pants I got infatuated with last Monday. They were gray and comfortable, but when I went back for them this afternoon, it felt like I didn't like them at all. And that's when I woke up, harem was never meant for me. I ended up not getting anything, sadly.

I wore a gray deep v-neck shirt, a black body-con skirt, some ripped stockings (the runs were unintentional), and my trusty black Chuck Taylors. My pink / white / orange Topshop shopper's bag accompanied me and added some color to my look. I swear, I have been in monotones since I could remember!

Anyway, I met up with my best friend, Dave, his boyfriend (well now, ex) Andrei and our friend Karla and Aaron. Actually I was with Karla first then the both of them. Moving on, after Karla left, I waited for Dave and Andrei in Kopiroti where I had a glass of their home made iced tea. When they finally arrived, I was showered (not really) with compliments on how they like my outfit, so and so which later on lead to Dave making me wear one of his fabulous, new Aldo boots. The moment I stood in one shoe (my other foot were in them Chucks), my best friend told me that my get-up was so Effy Stonem. And you have no idea how much I love Effy's style (and her)! Must I say that the boots definitely made my look better? I don't mean to sound narcissistic or anything along those lines but I am not kidding! Being told that I dressed like Effy is just great! Too great in fact that I can't wait to get my hands on a pair of sixteen-eyed Docs that I'm buying from a friend.

It was a really nice evening of catching up and laughter. It's not all the time that I get to be surrounded by fashion-inducing-and-loving friends! Well, I used to be back in 2007 but that's just a long time ago.

Of Pen Tablets and Free Time

I managed to create this using my dad's Wacom pen tablet and during my excessive amount of free time. It's pretty isn't it? Pretty amazing. It's not the way I want it to be, though. So yeah. But I can improve that! I'll be working on more illustrations like this in the future anyway. With sem-break and my being broke? There's no stopping me.

17 Oct 2010

Hello, Sembreak!

I know, I know! I'm a day late. Sue me! But who cares? At least I'm still posting something regarding the topic almost every college student is thrilled about.

This past week has gone too slowly to my dismay. Actually no, make that the past weeks. I've been sleepless, moody, and out of it for most part! And it isn't any fun. The only thing that made me get through all these stuff was the thought of when it's all over, I can have my freedom (from stress). And that was good enough. On my last day of classes which was Friday, I had to get a lot of things printed and the lines were too long and it just annoyed me. I was such a bitch to everybody who got in my way. Even after I managed to submit all the papers and plates due, I was still in a hurry for no reason at all. You know, adrenaline.

Now that's all over, I can finally relax in my over-sized shirts and underwear at home. And wear tights with a nice dress when I go out - not the usual black skinny jeans and uniform blouse to school.

As a reward to myself (other than sleep, that is), I bought a new shade of lipstick!
This isn't the exact same thing but the shade is similar to this. It's called sheer pinkish nude. Ohmygod, I'm such a girl. If you knew me back in high school, I wasn't really the kikay type so to speak. I only carried baby powder around and that's it. At times my mom would get mad at me for not bringing a bag at all because I really don't bring anything when we go out, I usually just put my money in my pocket. PLUS, I have lived in a shirt, jeans and sneakers for all eternity! Thanks dad. It was only after college that I learned to - say - dress up and put on make up. I've always been one of the boys.

Anyway, I'm really excited to go out soon because I really want to wear this new tint I got! Well I already tried it on of course and it looks perfect. I'll get another one some time next week. Tee-hee. Me and my simple pleasures.

You Be The Anchor That Keeps My Feet on The Ground

And let me formally present to you, my third (and best) tattoo so far. An anchor done right above my right ankle as a reminder to keep my feet on the ground. P&P Tattoo is amazing. Do you see how CLEAN that tattoo looks? I am beyond amazed.

It's already been three days since I got it (September 30, Thursday) and it still hurts like a bitch. Kind of uncomfortable if you ask me. But it's just too lovely for words so I will shut up now.

1 Oct 2010

It's Time to Blog

Notice the title? I kind of borrowed a song title from Panic! At the Disco (It's Time to Dance, anyone?), one of my favorite bands back in high school.. around four years ago. Wow, time travels fast! Damn, I should be taking my thesis right now. I just had to take up fashion first though. Just because.

Anyway, I'm in my dad's place right now, typing away! His place is actually very nice and clean. The men in my family. Blah. My brother's room is cleaner than mine. I wonder why? Oh right, maybe because I'm such a klutz. Aren't girls supposed to be the cleaner ones? What ever happened to that? It basically isn't that big but it sure was better than I expected! I guess I'll start staying here more often.

Last night, I had my third tattoo done! I wouldn't be able to post a picture of it yet, though since Tyler's still broken and I have to bring him to Canon's service center. I really need to get him fixed ASAP! Anyway, I had my friend Gab (yes, the same Gab from A Boat Called Disaster) design it. He actually gave me two gift certificates from P&P Tattoo & Body Art but I was only able to use one since it clearly states that it can only be used by one (GC) per person. But thank you, Gab! I can't remember how many times I've thanked him since he decided to just give me the GCs! What a great way to end my first Ber month for 2010! I was actually supposed to pick up the design and the gift checks the other day (September 29) but failed because I had to study for a graded recitation (which did not happen) so I just passed by for 'em yesterday. I was behind schedule because I left the house pretty late because of the rain. So I decided to cut my only class with Desiree (one of my blockmates) as she accompanied me to get it. I feel bad that neither of us had a camera but it's all good. I'll just ask someone else to take a picture of it.

That's it for the day. I have to leave for school now. I better think of something to do after class!

PS.
I am such a sad excuse for a girl.

Another Sleepless Night

I don't know how much I've been expounding on the fact how being a Fine Arts student is hard in this blog. But right now, I'm going to tell you again that it's not a piece of cake. My body clock has changed drastically ever since my first year and the only time I get it back to normal is during vacation. Normal meaning being able to sleep at night and be up all day. Yes, that's it. Being nocturnal isn't really my cup of tea but if it means that I get to submit my plates on time then I'm very much willing to bear with it. Just like tonight / this morning.

If you're wondering what I've been busy with for the past - say, six hours.. then I'd honestly tell you that I have been trying to finish two paintings. They're not really big ones or anything but they sure are a lot of work! For example, the first painting was actually due last week but there weren't any classes, and the second painting is due tomorrow (or later, rather). So basically, they're both to be submitted on the same day.. which is just.. BLAH. I've been working on plate number one since last week (done with it now) and I just sort of started with plate number two. My (personal) deadline is at nine this morning so I can prepare for the rest of my day.

Unlike other people, I don't need any sort of energy drink to keep me up but I'd probably need one when I leave the house to fight the urge of falling asleep. I'm reserving all that for Thursday night which I will be spending with my dad.

On the bright side, I'm pretty stoked to sleep over at my dad's place. I haven't seen him for more than a week and I miss him a lot. So I'm sure it's going to be a great weekend for me. I'm just wondering what stuff I should bring and how on earth am I going to commute with a bunch of stuff with me. I guess we'll just have to see, then?

P.S.
Happy fiftieth anniversary to The Flinstones!

New Layout!

After so many months of sticking with such a boring layout, I switched to a more dynamic one. Well, it has more going on than the previous one, don't you think? You know how I can change my mind. One moment I wanna have a clean, simple layout and a filled one (for the lack of the better term) on the next. But I always try to keep things simple.

I am also very proud to show everybody my logo. It has been in my head since last semester and I finally decided to work on it. And the result?

It's simple and modern at the same time, plus I wanted to play around with shapes. It's actually an ambigram! It says AV now and when you turn it upside down, it still says AV! How cool is that?! Okay so it's not that cool. I've actually made use of it already on this layout. Notice the extremely low-res header? Right beside The Diary, comes my logo. So what do you think? One day I'll modify it. The monochrome effect is kind of boring me. And it's too.. empty. Meh. I am too lazy to fix it right now. It's almost three, guys! Give me a break.

Anyway, since I haven't been updating much either, I would like to fill you in with random stuff regarding my life these past weeks.

Honestly, not much has happened. Wordpress still kinda bores me but maybe because I have always been a blogspot girl. It's like a constant in my life - it never changes. Look at it, it's still the same! See what I mean?

Another news is that.. Tyler broke. Yes, he did. I accidentally dropped him while I was in the restroom in Shangri-La and boy I was sent to panic mode. What happened after that? Let me tell you this: Error 99 happened. One of my worst nightmares = Tyler breaking. Canon, why do you make 40Ds like this?! Wasn't it built to last? Tyler's only two years old and I've only dropped him TWICE in it's life. WHY?! Ugh. Now I have to bring it to Canon's service center. Tyler needs help.

The same day that Tyler broke (prior to the program), I hosted The Bakery (the title of Izzy and I's show. It's called that way because we love pastries; don't ask.) on University Rock on NU107 with URockJock Izzy from Ateneo and we had A Boat Called Disaster (ABCD) as our guest band. They were pretty awesome, I tell you! Here are some pics I grabbed from their Facebook page.

(L-R) Kevin Shaw on vocals, Gab Bustos on drums, Marko Francisco on bass, Rafa Joseph and Miguel Velarde on guitars.

Dear God, why do I look like Jollibee in this picture? :( I have such huge cheeks.

It's funny how the three of us at the back (Rafa, me and Gab) have almost the same hair. Okay, it's not funny. It's just some random thing I noticed while looking at this photo (which is my favorite). That's Izzy on the far right, by the way.

Sorry for ruining this photo. I had no idea it was being taken! look like a complete dufus. Pardon my face. If you guys happen to be reading this, see you soon and good luck! You owe us brownies. It will remain engraved in my head until you give us some.

Project Outer Space

So today, as I was bored out of my wits due to the fact that my brother had been hogging the Internet. Then I thought of customizing some of my stuff. And there it is, my boredom went away all of a sudden. At first I wanted to paint my shirt in this outer space kind of theme, but then I remembered something.. MY PLAIN WHITE SHOES!

I used them once when I went out shopping with Nicole. Well I actually, I used them the moment I paid for it. Now I think it's plain and boring. After deciding what I really want to do with it, I prepared the stuff I need.

What I used
  • Acrylic paint
  • Round and flat bristle brushes
  • Water
  • Canvas; in this case, a pair of white shoes.

And the finished product:

I have yet to paint the sole black because I do not have black acrylic paint, sad to say. But I think i'll manage to look for one outside the house. So, what do you think of my new shoes?

Oh Sweet '90s

I couldn't help but post this photo taken from one of my favorite movies of all time, The Little Rascals. It screams of cuteness.

30 Aug 2010

My Planner is an Empty Book

I haven't been writing on my planner that much anymore and I feel semi-bad for leaving the blank pages unused. So what I do on my spare time is that I fill the empty days with random things I've done for that certain date. It's quite entertaining actually. I'm planning to do it again later when I'm too lazy to do anything else.

What's in my bag:
  • Xoxo wallet
  • Starbucks Planner
  • Two pairs of sunnies
  • Band aid
  • iPod Nano
  • Make up kit
  • Several felt-tip pens

Last Day of Manila Design Week 2010

Today was the last day of Manila Design Week and how can I miss it? I attended the first, I think it's just right that I should also attend the last, right? We got there around quarter to six. There weren't much people that's why we got to take pictures while the sun was still up.

We roamed around a bit, entering shops here and there. The interiors were nice and I love most of the stuff we saw.
I Love You Store

THE Clothing

Stoic

We hung out in Mogwai a bit because we were too lazy to do anything else that time. There weren't much people and we were bored.
Me being bored and..
Nicole being infinitely cool.

After that we went around again and then had dinner in Future (yes, that's the restaurants name) and we had Lemon buttered chicken. EXCRUCIATINGLY GOOD. When I saw the plate my eyes almost popped out.

Six pieces of chicken. How are we ever going to finish this?
Nicole's a warrior!
We finished the chicken! Although we didn't eat the fatty parts. That's how we cheated.

We also watched Sinosikat? play. They had a great set. Too bad we weren't able to stay for the other bands!

Also met up with my beloved friends from fashion school! AKA my best friend, Dave Gargollo and also Karla Ynzon who I met because of Dave and the gang as well.
Stairs to the Junkie Shop

With Dave and my huge arm making a scene.
With Karla and Dave.

We left around 9.30PM because we had classes the next day. Thanks so much Mary Nicole for the night!

Let me leave you guys with one last photo: AN OUTFIT POST!
Rose print dress (Forever 21), Liquid leggings and black plimsolls (Keds).

Good night, my lovely readers (if I do have some).
