My V/O Victor Ortega Salon Premier Experience

It's the Christmas season so I decided to give myself a present in the form of the L'Oreal Keratin Steam Bond Rebond from V/O Victor Ortega Salon Premier (Ortigas branch)! A couple of disclaimers before I begin with my post: I am not a beauty blogger, but I figured that since there are only a few reviews for this salon, I decided to give them one because I am truly happy with what they have done to my hair!

A Quick Back Story on My Hair
I never got a rebond in my life, but in the past I did get my hair straghtened (I was around 6th grade) and relaxed twice (second year high school, and 1st year college). Other than these, I also used to dye my hair a lot - and when I say a lot, I do mean A LOT. So you can imagine that my hair has been chemically treated (with dye) so much that I actually fried it. When I was in 5th year college - don't ask - I bleached my hair to achieve an ombre effect. I'm guessing by now you already know what I achieved instead. After a while I dyed it back to dark brown, and had my hair cut into a bob to get rid of the ends. Having short hair seemed okay for a while, but not until I managed to ruin it again by blow-drying it so much! Lol. Oops. My shoulder-length hair is thick, frizzy, and absolutely unmanageable.

After years of having wavy hair, I finally decided to get a treatment. I had three options: hair relaxing, Brazilian blow-out, or volume rebond. Initially, having my hair rebonded was the last thing that I wanted to do because of the number of women that I come across who have rebonded hair. After this, we sent a few more messages back and forth until I scheduled my appointment to December 20, at 1PM. But a day after I scheduled this, I realized that I wasn't doing anything for the weekend so re-scheduled my appointment to 1PM December 13. Unfortunately, they were fully-booked so I just said we'll do the whole thing the next day at the same time.

Come Sunday (14 December 2014), I woke up at 12:30PM and started panicking because I knew that I was going to be SUPER late for my 1PM appointment. Seeing that I live in Antipolo, it would take me forever to get to the salon. So I immediately texted them, notifying them that I will be rescheduling my appointment to 2PM. Which was no use, by the way. Ended up getting there at 3PM because of the traffic that Mega Mall causes + it's the holiday.

I walked from Mega to the salon which was actually quite easy to find. When I entered the salon, all seats were occupied (NOOOO!!!) but still proceeded to telling the receptionist who I was and about my appointment. She saw that I was booked for the 1PM slot, which I was 2 hours late for but they still accommodated me. Good thing one of the girls who had her hair done was finished so I was seated right away. The salon was small, they only had six seats all in all so it would always be best to book an appointment and not be late for it like me. Hehe.

To be sure of the promo price, I asked the people in the salon who were in charge of my rebond about it. Apparently, PhP 4,995 is already the discounted price. The entire time I thought that PhP 4,995 was the base price and 45% will still be taken off. Hah, apparently not. I still pushed through with it though.

Sometimes when my hair dries, it's super wavy. Pero ang-art ba? Chos.

The entire process lasted for about 5 hours for me - considering that my hair was really thick despite the length. We started at around 3:30PM where they washed my hair then applied the straightening product. After an hour and a half (5PM), they rinsed it off and blow-dried my hair. Next in line was the ironing process, which actually took the longest because they really iron thin sections of hair at a time to ensure that every strand is straight. For me, they curved the iron a bit while they went through my mane because I didn't want my hair to look pin-straight.

Hair already sectioned and good to go for ironing! Also had McDo for lunch c/o the boyfriend. Hehe.

They weren't lying about the ironing part being the longest because I was already getting tired of sitting down! They used the L'Oreal x Rowenta steam iron and we finished at around 7:30PM. After which they applied the neutralizer, rinse, hair treatment, rinse. And by 8:30PM (actually almost 9PM) I was paid, and already walking to Shangri-La Mall with silky straight hair.

Right after my day at the salon, I met up with Karla and David.

The next day, Monday (15 December 2014) at Greenbelt with Karla. I wasn't allowed to wash it yet!

First time to wash my hair since having it rebonded.

Okay, so I was expecting something with more volume, but ended up still having almost pin-straight hair after shampooing. To achieve the "volume" part, I still Iron the ends of my hair inwards so it wouldn't look too... rebonded.

All in all, I'm very happy with my hair. It's very manageable! Except for the part where it gets really windy and my hair gets on my face. Every strand is shiny and it looks very natural. So I highly recommend V/O Victor Ortega Salon Premier!

My Top 5 Go-To Restaurants in Manila

Okay, so I'll have you know that every time my boyfriend and I decide to eat out, we take forever to choose a restaurant unless either of us already has a specific cuisine in mind. On most times, it takes us more or less thirty minutes of arguing and rationalizing until we come to an agreement. But thank god for go-to restaurants! The boyfriend and I only have a few places we like to come back to every now and again that also gives us a bang for our buck, and here they are (in reverse chronological order). All the restaurants I chose have branches near the office (Makati) but have outlets in other cities as well. ;)

5. Burger Bar
There are times that I just crave for a burger that isn't from a fast food chain. Burger Bar serves yummy food at an affordable price! I usually order their Cheeseburgers (P195) and a side of fries of course. Another great thing about Burger Bar is that you can customize a burger however you want it to be. Although it costs a little over what I would spend for bread and a patty, it's alright. 8Cuts in Megamall is basically Burger Bar with a different name.


4. Tender Bob's
To be honest, I always come back for one entree, and that has got to be their pork chops. For only P260, you get two chops, vegetables, and the side of your choice (Garlic rice for me, please). The branch that we frequent is the one in Greenbelt 2 wherein we've already made ourselves familiar with the staff (Hi, Joel and Zeny!). They're all very welcoming and nice. The lack of a photo just proves that when I go to Tender Bob's, I'm too hungry to even take a photo. I'll add one next time. ;)

3. Tokyo Bubble Tea
Over there is my boyfriend, staring down at the food that he ordered. Anyway, Japanese has got to be one of my favorite cuisines. Before, when I'm in the mood for some raw fish and chicken teriyaki, I usually head over to a different Japanese resto franchise. But now, enter Tokyo Bubble Tea whose rolls are bigger and (not to mention) cheaper, has become my go-to Japanese resto (that isn't too expensive)!

2. Yabu
They claim to serve the best katsu in town, and I can't help but agree. I've known about Yabu for a few years now but it was only in December 2013 when my friends bugged me and the boyfriend to eat it with them. I remember them telling me that "You'll thank us for bringing you to Yabu." and indeed, we did! We usually order their Rosu Katsu (90g) that costs P340. Their katsu is very soft and juicy even if it's already gone cold. Aaaah!

1. Mary Grace
I don't know how it happened or why, but maybe it's my affinity for pastas and classy interiors and ambiance. Mary Grace happens to fall under this category. From what started out as a pastry stall in Shangri-La Plaza (To be honest, I don't know where their first branch is located) whose Lemon Squares I absolutely love, Mary Grace is now a full-blown restaurant. My dad would bring me here for coffee breaks usually in their Serendra branch, and then I started appearing for dinner. Whenever I go to a restaurant that serves pasta, I always go for their carbonara since it's always a safe choice. And that is exactly what I ordered in Mary Grace - their Classic Carbonara (P229)! The noodles are Al dente and it's really creamy and flavorful. After a few more times of ordering this dish, I decided to try out their other offerings. Mary Grace have really good sandwiches and cakes of course that are definitely worth the visit. They're all good, I tell you!

Of Promises and Resolutions

The year is coming to a close and in the past week, all I could really think of are the promises I'm willing to make and the resolutions I plan to keep. Therefore, I came up with a list of my New Year's resolutions. Woohoo!

1. Be punctual. It is no secret that I'm one of the worst people to set a certain time with. Seriously! Being on time has always been my Achilles' Heel. And for 2014, it's bound to be one of my biggest challenges.
2. Work harder. Somehow it feels like 2013 has been a year of too much play for me. I would really like to change this by cancelling out procrastination and mediocrity in my life. Why settle for "Okay" when you can go for "Wow"?
3. Make time for fitness. Another realization: no matter how much you diet, you will still be jiggly. I'm so tired of jiggling, guys!
4. Travel more. I gotta cure this wanderlust. Starting with out of town trips, then upgrading to out of the country trips. I cannot wait.
5. SAVE. SAVE. SAVE. In the middle of 2013, I got a job. Therefore a taste of earning money on my own. It feels good to not ask for cash from my parents, and being independent is a really great thing! But then after all the good times, the shopping sprees, and long cab rides, you think of when you're 30 and your savings account. How much money do you want to be in it?

Hi y'all! I'm back from the dead - at least for now. I recently started working at this lovely start-up company called "BECAUSE, Inc". It's my first job and I must say that I'm really learning a lot. My unofficial title is "Social Media It Girl" slash-Graphic Designer-slash-Marketing Assistant. Really, everybody in the company (all ten of us) don't stick with our official roles, so to speak. Basically, we do a little bit of everything.

A quick intro to BECAUSE, it started last January and we focus on nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, nutricosmetics, and consumer health products. Too much? To put it simply, these are stuff that will definitely do you good. Don't we all want that?

Since I began working here, I became more conscious about the stuff that I use for my body. Which leads me to the first product that we will be releasing: Saforelle!

It's a Girl Thing

Assuming that most of the people who visit my blog are girls / ladies / women, here is a post that may (or may not be) interesting for you.

The other day, I was on the phone with David, talking about random stuff like we always do, when all of a sudden, I caught a glimpse of my desk and how messy it was. Yes, I'm that kind of girl who has a messy room, but I know where things are placed. It also happens that I was semi-arranging my make up kit and realized how much make up I own - most of them I barely use anymore. So I decided to do a blog post on my make up! Yay (nay?)!

My Top 5 90's Crushes

After weeks of not updating, I finally managed to get my blogging groove on and write about something that hopefully, most of my readers (If I have any, that is) can easily relate to. Never mind my supposed graduation post that was looong due, I think that this is more interesting than telling you about the three grueling hours of waiting for my name to be called, just to receive a piece of paper - that is sadly not my diploma, but a calendar. And so this is what I came up with. My top 5 crushes during the 90's.

It was really difficult to narrow down the list since 8-year-old me had countless of cute crushes back in the day. Celebrities, mostly. Because my grade school classmates just weren't my type. Lolsies.

Let's start.

1. Nick Carter
Why of course he's in this blog post. And don't you even try to deny that you did not have a crush on BSB's heartthrob. The Back Street Boys obviously were the sh*t back then, and I can say that - with no shame - I still listen to their tunes.

2. Freddie Prinze Jr.
*Insert grunt here* Sarah Michelle Gellar is so lucky to have him as her Prinze Charming (Sorry, I couldn't help it!). As a child, I probably didn't appreciate Cruel Intentions all that much but damn. Look at that smile! Hng.

3. Aaron Carter
Who didn't have a crush on Nick Carter's younger bro? He continuously makes me want to sing "I want candy" - the candy being his face because it just looks so sweet! I wouldn't mind getting cavities because of him (Although I really do).

4. Taylor Hanson
Okay, okay. Let's admit it; we all thought we were lesbians when we started crushing on one (or any) of the Hanson brothers just because their long hair was so misleading (Also longer than mine!). And we probably wouldn't mind at all! Taylor Hanson is extremely ermahgerd-worthy. And that voice... oh, that voice! I'm hoping that I wasn't the only girl who was thrilled when a couple of years after, The Hansons came back to the scene with their song "Penny and Me" looking like - yup - BOYS! Boys who are just so damn gorge. Luv ya, Tay.

We're down to the final one, guys. And I definitely saved the best for last. I can openly admit that I still think he's a fine piece of... Oh, you know what I mean!

5. Justin Timberlake
I first saw him in N*Sync's "Bye Bye Bye" music video, and my first thought was "Whoa, this boy's cute". Despite the badly bleached, and kinky hair that looks a little bit greasy, I still found him a lot cuter than JC Chasez (No ofense, JC) who all the girls in my grade totes crushed on. Fast forward to a decade, he makes a comeback and boom! His hair is a gazillion times better. This is probably my only celebrity crush whom I will gladly cry a river for. Oh, and for the record, I absolutely love their "It's Gonna Be Me" video.

Art and Stuff

Recently, I've been trying to get inspired so I can produce more artworks - become more productive and all that so I can put something in my portfolio that doesn't look too god-awful. That's why last weekend over my dad's place, I was happy to have made something that's pretty pleasing to the eye: my first ever go at digital painting. Why not, right? The tablet was there, and I was never really any good when it came to digital painting. This wasn't so bad, though.

Graduation 101

At times, I find it hard to believe that a few more weeks from now, I'm finally graduating from college. This is it, I kept telling myself, but it hasn't really sunk in yet. Maybe it won't until I find the perfect dress to wear, or the best heels to walk in. I'm probably not the only one who has no freaking clue what to wear for their graduation day. There are probably a ton of you who are probably just as confused as I am. But I will do my best to help you sort it out!

Here are some tips and tricks that I picked up from a couple of friends who had to endure their graduation march:

Dress accordingly. Keep in mind that you're attending a graduation, not a party. Also that your professors are there to keep an eye on / judge / scold you. Not to mention, your love interest's parentals - in a sea of other parents. Yikes!

Wear shoes that you can walk in. Do you want to trip in the middle of the stage while receiving your diploma? The answer is a big NO. For girls, please refrain from sky-high stilettos. Do settle for sturdy heels that you're sure that you can comfortably walk in (Tip: Make sure you can still tip-toe about an inch from the ground while wearing them). For boys, always go for something classic. Maybe a pair of soft leather loafers, or dress shoes, but definitely no sneakers. This is a formal event.

Don't cake it up. Let's try and avoid a thick layer of make up. Who wants to look like a freaking clown when they come up the stage? No one. Berry-colored lips are really making a hit on the runways this Spring/Summer 2013; thick and bold eyebrows are definitely making a statement, and these will make you look younger (Believe me!). But the best make up trend that will surely last forever? Glowing skin. The one that makes you look like you're in love. Yup, definitely the best.

Keep it classy. Probably the best advice I can give you, regardless of gender.

Belated 22nd

I'm not really big on birthdays but it doesn't necessarily mean I don't celebrate it. After all, it's another year added to my lifespan, therefore it's something to be thankful for.

Started the day with a run in UP, Diliman with my good friend from high school, Kyle. He treated me for lunch in Roku, a Japanese restaurant that can be found in the 5th floor of Oracle Building along Katipunan Avenue. I love their sushi!

I ordered their best sellers (the rolls) and Chicken Teriyaki (Japanese food default / fave). The one in the upper-right corner is some sort of tuna tempura type of roll, below that are tuna and salmon rolls and Kyle's ramen. Sorry, I totally forgot what the food are called! In my defense, this happened a month ago.

Had dinner with my dad and not-so-little brother at Omakase in Ayala Triangle. Sadly, mom couldn't make it because she wasn't feeling very well. Double whammy on Japanese food!

Sam and papa, enjoying the sushi (I forgot the name again). Also, funny story. The three of us were wearing blue that day! Well you wouldn't see my outfit but I was wearing a light-washed denim vest. Scouts' honor!

After dinner and dessert with my two favorite men, I headed over to Eunice's place to hang out / catch up / relax / wait for David to come pick us up.

When David got there, we headed over to Dillingers to have a small pre-graming. Plus David's rib eye steak.

After that, we went straight to Today x Future to celebrate my birthday (like what I did last year) with my other friends. Sadly, I don't have pictures for that but it was a really fun night. Thank you for making my night extra fun and special!

Maybe it's the holiday season, or the cold air I've been breathing the past twenty-four hours or so, or probably my craving for some Amaretto Sour or gin (I need to take my mind off it). But I'm suddenly in the mood to write.

What, you think I'm going to let the last day of 2012 slip through my fingers just like that without even a blog post? You're wrong. Because here I am, typing away in my mother's laptop. Trying to come up with something witty to say just so I can impress y'all with my big words. But not really. A year from now, when I read this entry I'd probably end up saying "What the hell was I thinking?!". The same thing I say-slash-ask after a drunken night. So to the next-year-me: shut up.

Twenty-twelve has been pretty okay. Honestly I don't remember much about it. Everything felt like a blur. The first couple of months felt like a routine: I wake up, get dressed, then just do something random with my friends like eat and then go home. Except for that time when all of my batch mates were in tears, writing on each other's uniforms about how much they'd miss them yadda yadda - they were all busy graduating: shopping for nice dresses and heels, getting their hair done and doing their make up; while I still had two semesters ahead of me. It's okay though 'cause this year wasn't so bad. The last quarter has got to be the best, though. So I'll write about that!

In October, I was persuaded by a friend to try and submit my CV to Styles Entertainment since they were looking for marketing interns, the same night I bagged myself an interview. After said interview, I didn't think I'd get the job since I practically know nothing about the company. But they still got me! That's one.

November rolled by and... well I don't remember much about it. But my friends and I had this super random trip to Tagaytay and I somewhat ended up in TEF (Tagaytay Electronica Festival) wherein I didn't plan on going to at all! Got drunk. The following week was Karla's birthday party which I could never miss for the world. That was an awesome night. I was drunk then, too.

And then there's December. And oh boy, did I love December. I really do! Lately I've been going out with friends, meeting new people and basically just having the time of my life. This is probably one of the things that I wasn't able to fully enjoy when I was in my teens. Maybe I'm just making up for it? Christmas was exceptional, I got to spend it with my family - complete family. That was really nice. And now it's the last day of twenty-twelve. Time to get drunk on cheap wine. ;)
